Meet Karen & Barry

08.23.26
The day I will marry my best friend.  The one i laugh with, live for, dream with, and love.

It all started with a swipe on Bumble—something neither of us thought would change our lives, proof that sometimes true love really does come from good Wi-Fi and a little boredom/curiosity. At the time, we were just two people with profiles, hoping to find someone kind, someone real and hoping the other person was as normal in real life as they seemed online. Then, we matched on October 12, 2018. After a few text interactions, we decided to meet on November 3rd for dinner at The Keg Steakhouse.

From that one swipe grew countless moments: laughter, late nights, challenges, growth, traveling the world, and a love that kept choosing to show up. We first declared our love at the White House Oval office. What started on Bumble led us here, surrounded by the people we love most, ready to promise forever.

One message turned into a conversation, the conversation turned into hours, and suddenly we were both thinking, “Okay... this might actually be something” and falling “Accidentally in Love." So yes, we met on Bumble—but more importantly, we found our person. God gave me you!

Our Story

Karen was surprised by the proposal. The proposal took place on a special trip to Paw Paw Lake, Michigan, on June 30, 2025. Karen had always wanted to see this lake, where her dad and his family enjoyed many years. Karen’s grandma owned the “Burke’s Hollywood Cottages” back in the 1940’s. Barry surprised Karen by getting reservations to stay in these cottages, currently named Heron’s Nest. Since Barry was unable to ask Karen’s Dad for her hand in marriage, he thought the next best thing would be this special place, hoping she would feel the presence of her dad and
his family.

Barry suggested getting pizza and sitting by the lake on a picnic table near the cottages. After dinner, Karen wanted to dip her foot into the lake with Barry helping so that she wouldn’t fall into the water. When she turned around, Barry knelt to ask her to be his wife.

With tears in her eyes, she said “yes,” and seconds later, a family of ducks swam by. The ducks symbolize luck, peace, and protection. The ducks felt like a special symbol, getting dad’s approval and representing an important chapter in her life.

Our top priority is spending this day with you, and we are
incredibly thankful to be able to celebrate with those we care
about. Since we are fortunate to have everything we need for our
house, conventional gifts are not necessary. For those who say, "I
know you said no gifts, but I'm giving you something anyway"
crowd . We would be thrilled with a small contribution to help us
make new memories on our honeymoon. Help us transform "I do" into "bon voyage" ✈️ 🚢
